It seems as if the Source will do anything he can to try and take out the Charmed Ones, his plan was to kill the witch/whitelighter hybrid who was very close to Nick Hart, it would weaken Nick emotionally, and then weakening the whole power of three, giving him the perfect chance to actually attempt killing them.
The Source will now reward the brave phoenix witch who successfully killed Hayden.
